A wonderful experience Sis Lena Goh

I’m a third-generation Christian and my grandparents were pious believers. They would not miss any church services, prayer meetings or family thanksgiving Sundays. By holding evangelistic gatherings at home, my grandparents would invite pre-believing friends and relatives over. Despite being over seventy years of age, my parents have followed the godly examples of my grandparents and are still serving fervently in the church ministry. I am extremely thankful for the grace of God. For my generation, God has chosen my husband to become a local preacher. I, thereby, became a preacher’s wife.
In these three believing generations of my family, we have never experienced the anointing of the Holy Spirit, where our hearts burst with warmth and joy. We have always subscribed to very traditional church services, and even during worship, we do not see people lifting their hands in praise of the Lord. In a sense, one could say we are rather conservative. However, during the times when my husband was in theological studies, we attended charismatic gatherings that allowed us to break free and worship with lifted and clapping hands.
Last Sunday, Brother Ang and Esther from CKRM attended our church service. At tea time, there was an opportunity for mutual sharing and they asked to pray for my husband, that the Lord may grant him more grace in his ministry of shepherding. We then moved to the computer room. Just as Brother Ang and Esther were praying for me, I fell back on the chair as the Holy Spirit filled me. My hands could not stop trembling and I broke into songs of praise � Hallelujah! Hallelujah! The entire episode lasted 15 minutes. My heart was filled with boundless joy and my body felt warm and light. This was the first time in my entire life that I’ve experienced the Spirit’s anointing.
At 5am in the morning after, I was jolted out of my sleep, feeling rushes of heat following between my shoulders. It can’t be the Spirit’s filling me at this time, could it? Indeed it was. As I followed the leading of the Holy Spirit, my hands began to tremble. I could not decide if I should wake my husband who was sound asleep beside me. Yet as my hands trembled faster, I hoped he could share in this special moment. I gently kicked him and he thought that I was dreaming. When I told him that the Spirit was at work within me, he sat up and prayed for me. By this time, my cheeks were flushed and my tongue began moving uncontrollably. I broke into a few sentences of tongue speaking that lasted around 20 minutes. After I visited the bathroom and came back to my bed, my feet began tapping, faster by the minute. In a while, I was up on my feet, singing and dancing. Then, I felt a powerful force that pushed me on to the bed. I began to speak in tongues for longer sentences and something that sounded like Tamil or an African language. That lasted 25 minutes. In all, the entire experience was an hour long.
‘And I will ask the Father, and he will give you another Counsellor to be with you forever, the Spirit of truth. The world cannot accept him, because it neither sees him nor knows him. But you know Him, for He lives with you and will be [ a ] in you.’ John 14:16-17
My experience was through the grace of God. While I was speaking in tongues, my heart was bursting with joy, and I felt connected to the sweetness and warmth of God. My eyes swelled with tears that overflowed from a joy within and when I was dancing, my body was feather-light. I had never experienced such an anointing before, and it could not be described in mere words. It is one I will never forget.
�You turned my wailing into dancing; you removed my sackcloth and clothed me with joy, that my heart may sing to you and not be silent. O LORD my God, I will give you thanks forever.’ – Psalm 30:11-12
